For the past four years, the Zithei GBV Race has grown into a flagship community initiative in Ladysmith, bringing people together with a shared purpose to stand firmly against Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
The event welcomed participants from all walks of life, with registrations open to the entire community and all age groups. From senior citizens to young children accompanied by their parents, the race created an inclusive environment where everyone had a role to play. Family-friendly activities, including a dedicated jumping castle, ensured that even the youngest attendees were engaged throughout the day.

Hosted in Zithei, located in the heart of Zakheni, the event reflected the community’s deep-rooted commitment to care, safety, and wellbeing. As part of the programme, essential support services were made available on-site. Healthcare professionals conducted medical screenings, while social workers and counsellors provided guidance and emotional support—reinforcing the event’s purpose beyond the race itself.
A key highlight of the day was the continued partnership with Suzuki Motorcycles, a proud supporter of the Zithei GBV Race over the years. This year, Suzuki showcased the Avenis and the DS250, drawing significant attention upon arrival in Ladysmith. The display generated excitement across generations, with children expressing curiosity and excitement, while adults engaged with the brand through meaningful conversations and product enquiries.

The Suzuki DS250, widely referred to by community members as “undlelazonke”meaning an all-rounder—stood out for its versatility and rugged design, capable of handling both tar and gravel roads. The growing interest in motorcycles within the Zakheni community signals an emerging lifestyle trend, particularly among professionals such as teachers, police officers, healthcare workers, farmers, and entrepreneurs.

Zakheni is also a hub of cultural and creative excellence. The area has produced influential artists and continues to inspire new talent across music genres. The legacy of the Shabalala brothers remains a cornerstone of Ladysmith’s identity, contributing significantly to tourism and paving the way for the next generation of celebrated artists.
The Zithei GBV Race is more than an event it is a platform for awareness, collaboration, and positive social impact. Through strong community participation and meaningful brand partnerships, the initiative continues to drive conversation, inspire action, and strengthen the collective stand against GBV.
